Definitely an interesting autopsy of the wand. Seems like some of the parts of the cord were shorting out which is actually a common problem with a lot of appliances that get heavy use but is honestly a easy fix for someone with some time and a little electronics knowhow. Hopefully this new one will last you another 30 years of use.

Cool idea, Tuesday! I want to "autopsy" our first vibe, a horrible smelling SilaGel realistic vibrator that My Man bought me years ago. It smells like, well, SilaGel, as well as developing a seam separation. Maybe it will be a workshop project for a fun day.
